Modern Aghdam

The area of central Aghdam City to be around 1,750 hectares, whereas the total area of the city including the farmer gardens around the city will be 2,450 hectares. Aghdam will have a population of 100,000 people, making it the largestcity in Karabakh and the sixth largest city in Azerbaijan. In total, 70% of the population will live in apartment buildings, and 30% will reside inprivate houses. In addition to 1,750 private residential houses, 23,000 units inresidential buildings are planned in Aghdam. Newly developed Aghdam will have historical,administrative, residential, recreational, and industrial/agricultural zones. The historical centrewill primarily feature the “Imarat” palace complex, the tombs of the Karabakh khans, theShahbulag fortress, and the new mosque. The centre will be built in the traditional style ofKarabakh cities.

On May 28, 2021, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, took part in laying the foundation stone for the reconstruction of Aghdam city and met with leaders of the district community.
